How to upgrade
Applications Manager product to the latest version by applying service pack
(ppm file) ?
Instructions to Apply the Service Pack :
1.) Stop the Manage
Engine Applications Manager service from Start-> Run -> services.msc
2.) Via command
prompt, execute the < shutdownApplicationsManager.bat -force > command from
the 'AppManager Home' folder
3.) Go to the
'AppManager Home'\support\ folder and delete all old support files (files with extension as .gz or .zip)
4.) Go to the
'AppManager Home'\working\webclient\ and delete the 'temp' directory
5.) Go to the
'AppManager Home'\ and delete the old logs folders (example: logs_old or
logs_date or logs.zip)
6.) Go to the
'AppManager Home'\working\ and delete hs_err_pid<xxxx>.log files &
java_pid<xxxx>.hprof files if present (where xxxx can be any process id)
7.) Go to the 'AppManager Home'\working\backup\ and delete the
backups which are older than last one month (If there is no backup then proceed
to next step)
8.) Take a complete
backup of 'AppManagerHome' folder. After that close all the explorer &
command prompt window (Do not skip the
above step)
9.) Download the
latest service pack file (s) from this link http://www.manageengine.com/products/applications_manager/service-packs.html#sp
10.) Run the updateManager.bat script ( updateManager.sh
-c for Linux) from the 'AppManager
Home'\bin\ folder which invokes the Update Manager tool
11.) Select the
service pack file (.ppm) saved in that server
12.) Start Install
to initiate the upgrade process
13.) Once you see
the "Installed" message on your screen, click finish to complete the
installation
14.) Start the
Manage Engine Applications Manager service from Start-> Run ->
services.msc
Note:
a.) As best practice take a backup of the entire 'AppManager
Home' folder, so that you can re-use this backup copy for restore purpose
should any issue occur post upgrade
('AppManager Home'
directory is the installation folder of Applications Manager product. You can
find that from the Applications Manager web console-> Support tab->
'Installation Information' section)
b.) If you are using
Microsoft SQL server as back end for Applications Manager then connect
to that & take a backup of the appropriate database before upgrading
c.) If in any case you are restoring from the backup, do not
overwrite the service-pack applied installation folder. Rename the existing
installation folder and then copy the backup folder to same location
d.) If you are applying more than one service pack then you
have restart the Applications Manager once before applying the next service
pack
e.) Always open command prompt using 'Run as Administrator'
option
